Tisha Moon

CLINICAL DIRECTOR

LPC, NCC

Hi! I’m Tisha Moon, a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) and National Certified Counselor (NCC) in Virginia and Florida (Telehealth) with nearly ten years of experience providing therapeutic services to children, young people and adults.

My clients are often on a journey of self-discovery, expanding their boundaries and deepening their connection with who they truly are. I provide an inclusive and affirming environment that values unconditional acceptance to create space for them to explore the diversity of human expression away from societal standards. Through cultivating practices rooted in awareness, compassion and authenticity my goal is for you to find strategies that work best for your unique experience; so when navigating the sometimes overwhelming world around us, there’s balance between staying true to yourself while managing external expectations. Together we work on strategies that allow genuine self-expression without sacrificing comfort or having to mask your true self – it’s time you found freedom in being authentically “you”!

I often work with children who have BIG, confusing and complex feelings. Traditional parenting approaches like reward charts, time outs and commonly suggested CBT (Cognitive Behavioral Therapy) approaches are often found to be  ineffective. I don’t “fix” children or “modify” behavior; I work with individuals to explore what’s underneath the surface and figure out ways that support their individual needs in order to thrive in a world and society that was not established for those of us outside of the “norm.” Uncovering the challenges and developing creative solutions – that’s what I do. This is why my work with children ALWAYS includes parents or caregivers. My approach is collaborative and focuses on the entire family developing skills to look at what is underneath behavior and explore ways to self-regulate in order to co-regulate with children. I build upon everyone’s strengths to support my clients (and their caregivers) in ways that nurture their authenticity.

I operate from a neurodiversity and LGBTQIA+ affirming framework that is always trauma informed. You may feel that the world can be incredibly overwhelming, feel misunderstood, or like you don’t quite fit in.  You might be on a journey of self-discovery, expanding your boundaries and deepening your connection with who you truly are.

As neurodivergent myself, I understand the challenges and strengths that come along with being perceived (and often interpreting) the world differently. Because of this, I place a strong emphasis on being person-centered and authentic in my practice–meaning that I meet each individual where they are and work collaboratively to find what will be most helpful for them. I understand that not all spaces are inclusive so we work to support your needs authentically in brave ways that are safe. We work towards identifying and advocating for your needs, establishing comfortable boundaries that foster environments that are suitable for your individual sensory, social, learning, processing, and attentional needs and differences instead of teaching you to blend in.

I utilize a person-centered and child-centered play approach, walk & talk sessions, ACT, and mindfulness-based CBT, somatic and neurobiological interventions to support the nervous system. Evidence-based modalities are adapted to ensure they are affirming of neurodivergence and gender diversity.

IEP/504 School Consultations

With years of experience in various settings, including private practice, community-based services, and school-based services, I've developed a strong understanding of how school systems function and the critical importance of upholding every student's educational rights. I am honored to have successfully advocated for my clients in obtaining and amending IEPs and 504s to meet their individual needs. My commitment to assisting families and clinicians through this often confusing and complicated educational system is driven by a deep passion for advocating alongside those who face significant challenges in their daily lives.
