We are collaborative and inclusive and we offer individual, group, couples and family therapy to members of the community ages 3+.

Our group of clinicians are committed to promoting social justice and equality for all members of the community. We are constantly seeking to better ourselves as therapists through training and consultation.

 

We are currently seeking a full-time licensed child therapist (seeing clients 3-12 years old) to join our thriving fee-for-service therapy practice. You would be able to establish your own hours and see the type of clients that you enjoy. Benefits include:

We are looking for someone who meets these criteria:

 

  1. Independently licensed in the Commonwealth Virginia (PsyD, PhD, LCSW, LMFT, or LPC) but open to a resident/supervisee.

  2. Has experience working with clients ages 3-25.

  3. Willing to work two or more afternoons/evenings a week (Saturdays are also an option) and wants 24+ clients a week (FULL TIME)

  4. Skilled at parent coaching/consultation.

  5. Play Therapy passion/specialization (RPT) or pursuing (can provide supervision if needed). Please share/be prepared to share play therapy training and classes you have attended in the past.

Clinical Psychology Externship Program (PsyD, PhD)
Family & Child Therapy | 2025-2026 Training Year

​

Family & Child Therapy is a neurodivergent-affirming and LGBTQIA+ affirming private practice that provides inclusive, relationship-centered care to children, teens, and families. We are currently accepting applications for 1–2 clinical externship positions for the 2025–2026 training year.

​

This externship is ideal for motivated and independent trainees who are passionate about working with children and adolescents, and who are eager to develop skills in both psychotherapy and psychological assessment within a values-driven, supportive environment. We are especially interested in candidates who are aligned with our affirming approach to neurodiversity and gender diversity, and who seek to grow their clinical identity within an inclusive, trauma-informed setting.

What We Offer

 

Externs at Family & Child Therapy will:

​

  • Carry a caseload of 8–10 weekly individual therapy clients (primarily children, teens, and parents).

  • Complete comprehensive neurodivergent-affirming psychological, psychoeducational evaluations, and developmental assessments.

  • Have opportunities to co-lead therapy groups and participate in family or couples therapy (optional).

  • Receive weekly individual supervision, group supervision, and dedicated testing supervision.

  • Engage in case presentations and didactic learning focused on culturally responsive, affirming, and developmentally, client-centered care.
     

All externs will have access to fully designed and furnished therapy office, therapy materials, office supplies, psychological testing tools, EMR systems, and administrative/intake support.

Schedule & Time Commitment

​​

  • Minimum commitment of 16 hours per week over at least two days.

  • Some evening and/or weekend availability may be required to meet client needs.

  • Weekly supervision is required; additional group supervision hours to take place 2 hours/month.

  • Some flexibility in scheduling is available.
