Hi! My name is Alex Haller, and I am a Resident in Counseling and Provisional Art Therapist (ATR-P) in Virginia.
Therapy should be a space where you can come exactly as you are. While I specialize in working with children and teens, I work with clients of all ages—children, adolescents, adults, and families. Whether you are an adult seeking deeper insight into your identity, a family navigating conflict, or a parent seeking support for your child, I offer a person-centered, holistic approach that emphasizes unconditional acceptance.
My practice is rooted in a neurodiversity- and LGBTQIA+-affirming, trauma-informed framework. Having worked with a wide range of populations—including adults in the military and those navigating the complexities of addiction—I am passionate about providing compassionate, effective care that respects your unique lived experience. As someone who identifies as neurodiverse, I understand the challenges of navigating a world where you may be perceived as “different.” I strive to offer a space of safety, authenticity, and cultural humility.
My approach is centered on empowering clients by uncovering their inherent strengths through creative modalities, including Child-Centered Play Therapy (CCPT) and Art Therapy. My practice is centered on providing empathic and affirming care, dedicated to fostering meaningful personal growth. Recognizing that each individual's journey is unique, my role as a therapist is to offer support on that distinct path. Ultimately, I aim for clients to leave therapy with a deeper sense of self-worth, a toolkit of effective coping strategies, and enhanced resilience for navigating life's challenges.
Common Questions About Art Therapy
-
What is art therapy? Art therapy is a mental health profession in which a trained, credentialed art therapist facilitates art processes and discussions to support individuals, families, and/or groups. Artmaking can promote skill-building, self-reflection, non-verbal exploration and communication, and creative problem-solving.
-
What if I’m not good at art? You don’t have to be an artist to benefit from art therapy! Everyone has inherent creativity. I am trained to facilitate artmaking that aligns with your specific needs and comfort level, regardless of your artistic skill.
